Coatesville Open House and Reach Out and Read Launch
On Friday, April 14, ChesPenn welcomed the community to share in the launch of the Reach Out and Read Program at our Center for Family Health at Coatesville in memory of ChesPenn Chief Medical Officer Dr. Letitia O’Kicki’s mother Theresa G. Caroff. Dr. Trude Haecker, Reach Out and Read Philadelphia Medical Director, spoke passionately about the benefits of reading to children beginning in infancy.
Representatives from nonprofit partners, local businesses, and government officials joined us for the dedication. They met staff members and toured our medical and dental offices and we offered an opportunity for guests to learn about career opportunities at ChesPenn.
The Reach Out and Read Program is an evidence based approach in which pediatricians talk with parents and caregivers about the benefits of reading aloud and sharing with their young children beginning at birth. During each well child visit from birth to age 5, children also receive a new, age-appropriate book to take home. ChesPenn has offered Reach Out and Read for many years at our Chester and Upper Darby sites and we are excited to bring this powerful tool for healthy child development to Coatesville!
